Holiday weekend

July 3, 2008 Uncategorized 2

Tomorrow is the 4th of July, not a huge holiday in my book, but it is a 3 days weekend for my husband and my family will get more time together.
Growing up I have memories of cookouts and campouts and fireworks and my only favorite sparklers. I like watching big fireworks displays, but I’m not a fan of the home variety, much to my children’s disappointment.
Adult memories of the 4th include hunting down festivities and watching the light show, seeing wonder in my young children’s faces.
There is sadness in the holiday too, because my father in law passed away on July 4th, 1993. His sons said he died on that day so none of us would ever forget the date………not unlike my father in law, happy to be the center of attention. I was 8 months pregnant with our twins and I was huge and uncomfortable, and it was such an emotional time for my husband’s family. On the day of the funeral we had to leave after the graveside service for an Dr appt an hour away, we missed the luncheon our church provided. Not a huge deal, but a moment I remember feeling I’d somehow let my mother in law down in not supporting her. She never expressed that, I just had that feeling
So this year we’ll remember my husbands father, and imagine how my children would have loved him if he’d lived to see them.
We are headed out tomorrow morning to Clearwater for a state softball tournament. We will be with friends and watch our daughter play softball, hang out around the hotel pool, grill out and go to the beach to see fireworks!

My favorite holidays are July 4th, Memorial Day and Labor Day… all because you don’t have to do anything or you can plan family time…mainly picnics etc… the holidays stress me out!

    How was the tournament?
