The Season is done!

Who would guess I’d be so happy to have high school softball season behind us? Whew, it was long! Tryouts start in January, preseason is right at Feb 1, and just tonight we lost our second round of district play. Ok, that is four long months, and I’m here to tell you…….when it’s not going well, that seems like eons!!!
Many of you know that the political drama of high school sports teams is alive and well down here in FL. Adrienne is a catcher and 3rd base player. She plays for a very competitive travel team the rest of the year. I’m going to be honest with you, she’s in a slump, it started when she was only batting and her confidence just went down the drain. Mid season she began to catch and her batting and attitude improved. It was lovely and amazing, but then boom, she lost it and tonight, the poor girl struck out three times at bat, my heart went out to her!
So we chalk up the 2009 season to one where the school team went 10-12, not awful at all, two years ago this team was 1-19, this was before Adrienne and a good group of girls with some more travel ball experience came up to high school. We say good bye to one nasty senior in particular that I will not miss. We sadly say goodbye to a great pitcher and another infielder, graduating is wonderful, but we’ll miss them. We look ahead to a next year, maybe a new coach, since ours is currently pregnant again and suggesting it might be too much with a new baby and a 2 year old. We pray that politics and drama will be less a part of next year, and perhaps we can put the best girls in to play, and enjoy the game.

Ahhh, the memories you bring forth for me! Isn’t it a shame that people lose their proper perspectives about things like sports? I’m glad you all get a break from it now. πŸ™‚

Susan–HS sports have seasons. Travel sports are nearly year round, you take off for the HS season and a month here and there.

Politics and drama – wouldn’t it be nice if our daughters could experience just a little less of that? And there’s always THAT ONE GIRL or maybe two, who make it hard for everyone else.

I remember the politics and drama well. My two played soccer, swam, and my son also played on a travel ice hockey team for 5 years. While most of it was alot of fun, the politics were definately a part of it all.

Enjoy this time away from the HS softball and hopefully your daughter will soon get her groove back! She’s just in a temporary slump!

What a season! It sounds like it was a great opportunity to grow and learn a lot…and now to breathe a sigh of relief! πŸ™‚
