Things I do for Me Monday…….um late.

May 26, 2009 Things I do for Me 12

Good morning, I’m trying to make this a weekly feature, but with the holiday my week is off kilter a bit.

In the scheme of one thing I do for me there is one that some might see as conforming or putting on a show……….but for me it’s not that at all………….I love makeup!!!
I am the daughter of a woman who loves makeup too. My mom’s routine of getting ready for the day hasn’t varied much in my nearly 50 years, and before. She’s not one to jump out of bed, but my mom would not consider her day ready to really start until she had her “face” on. My mom would not and will not go out without make up. This apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
I began my love affair in earnest at about age 13. It started with eye shadow and blush applied at the Jr. High in hiding, but the good stuff came at about age 15. I still remember my mom taking me to a Seventeen Magazine fashion show and event at Stix Baer and Fuller, a St. Louis Department store. I was given samples of Chanel makeup, what fool would give this to a teen, but anyway I liked it and my mom, eager to have me step into her world, bought me my first line of make up products from Chanel. This was some really good stuff!!! During college I switched to Clinique and then post college back and forth from Lancome to Clinique and so on.

Four or so years ago, I wanted a change, I was still in love with makeup of all kinds, foundation though was a problem, I was sitting outside watching my kids play sports and it was melting off of me, and I wasn’t happy with the results………….so I tired
Mineral makeup. My first venture out was with the much advertised and touted Bare Escentuals, I went for a makeover at a store in Orlando and I really was amazed with it’s feel and coverage and I bought in hook line and sinker!
A problem, I thought the price was too high and so I began talking to other mineral make up lovers and found my new Holy Grail of MM………………………

Lumiere is at this time available to me online, but the owner, Kim, makes it so easy to find what is right for you. It is so much more diverse and deep in foundation formulas and shades than the much touted BE. There are foundations, blushes, eye colors, finishing powders, concealers and so much more!!! The brushes are unmatched in quality. Prices are reasonable, sales are often, and I’ve been satisfied with every single thing I’ve bought.

Care to guess what my 15 year old daughters wear? They love Lumiere too! I’ve enjoyed introducing them to my passion, and I let them decide what they want to wear. We are all fairly natural in our make up approach, but we all feel more “dressed” with it on.

So make up is something I do for me, not for my husband or the rest of world to think I’m looking good. Trying a new blush or radiance powder is a treat, and guess what, one sample is available for Lumiere with each order………cute little ziplock bag for $0.01…….where can you go wrong?

If you’d like to join in and share what you do for you………….I can send you the HTML code for button………..and I’d love to know more of the things you do just for YOU!

I love this concept. It’s something I’m afraid many women avoid thinking about. Like you, I don’t feel put together without make up. I like it that MathMan thinks I don’t “need” make up, but I just don’t feel like I’m ready to go out until I have certain things on. A little powder, eyeliner and mascara are essentials. The rest are extras. Otherwise I feel as if I am too monotone, especially after letting my hair go gray.

I tried BE and liked it very much, but was put off by the price. I may have to try Lumiere and see! I really do like the light feeling of the mineral powders.

Ok, I’m joining in today later when I have more computer time 🙂 I just love this meme idea!

And I love makeup too. From skin cleanser to moisturizer to actual color… I feel like such a girl with it on! My mom and sister are both as anti makeup as you can get but I learned it all from my mother-in-law 🙂 It all started with me telling her I’m getting laugh lines and her rushing me to Target to find moisturizer. The lines weren’t really there… I was 19 and just seeing things. But she enjoyed sharing her passion and it was contagious! I’ve been an addict ever since.

I no longer wear make-up, but I am reconsidering what it might do for me if I wear it again. I like how nothing is on my face to rub off onto something else (such as my couch pillows or my children). I never liked the melting off the face thing either. I have found it liberating to go without make-up. It is something I never imagined doing. I have not had make-up on in so long, I can’t remember how different I look with it on.

I love Makeup as well. Speifically I love Lumiere! I love it so much that I am now the hostess of a Lumiere Addicts forum. I love being able to help newbies find just the right shades and produts at Lumiere!

I use BE foundation and have never heard of Lumiere. I am curious, though, if it’s available online, how do you know how to match your shade?

I am pretty natural in my makeup, too, but I don’t feel like I am completely dressed until I have my lipstick on!

I used to have a Pastor that said, “Any old barn looks better with a little paint!” ha!

I am a pretty natural gal, but when my daughter expressed interest I steered her straight towards “the good stuff”. The only other advice I gave her was “You look great is a compliment. Your make-up looks great means you have too much on.” She applies eye-liner better than I ever have…

I also wear makeup everyday. The only place I go without it is the gym. I’m embarassed to admit that I wear drug store brands. I’ve tried department store make up but couldn’t really tell the difference. I go for the natural look, and the drug store brands seem to be just fine. I must admit that I’ve been curious about mineral makeup. I’ll have to look into Lumiere. Thanks for the recommendation.

Ooops, meant to mention your awesome button as well. Beautiful. I will be adding it to my blog roll. Is there HTML code or do I simply post it as a picture?

I totally remember that department store! Fond memories of my grandmother and aunts taking me there.

I love make- up, too! But I often go without it. Pure laziness!

I love this feature. I’m going to try to join in next week.
I wear makeup everyday. I have for years. I’ve tried many different brands. I’m going to check into this one, looks great.

I love putting on a full face when going out to dinner or church but for everyday I stick with mineral powder, mascara, and lip gloss. I use Loreal’s Bare Minerals and so far so good!

  12. My name is PJ.

I wore makeup for years…always the natural colors and then I retired from the work force. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I cut my hair off short and now I wear mascara and a little blush when I go someplace that requires it, which is almost never. I also traded my eleventy gazillion pairs of shoes and my $40/week drycleaning bill (true) for crocs and wash and wear clothing. Living in small corner, small town, small state, USA I fit right in! 🙂
