It’s really here………..

June 11, 2009 Uncategorized 12

School’s been out for a week or two and we are in full summer mode, and it means different things to each member of out house.
First I should say that to my husband it means next to nothing right now…LOL, he actually feels left out as we all sleep in each morning. He’s a bit jealous to say the least. He’s also very busy at work with auditors and examiners, he’s got vacation in July…………so his time is coming.
For my girls summer IS about sleeping in and staying up late. It’s about running around with friends and going to the beach or someone’s pool. It’s about talking and texting on the phone more than any teen human should……but it’s summer, so I try to just let it go.
For Nick it’s about how many friends he can see, what they can go do,and how many summer movies he can watch. It’s been a bit of a slow start for him, so he’s telling me how bored he is……ugh.
I am currently a SAHM, an oxymoron because a mom rarely just stays at home, and her work is never done. I love my family, and I love caring for them. Summer is fun in many ways as I too am not waking at 6am to the rush rush of school prep and me driving. It’s nearly 10am and I’m still in my pajamas. I do miss the quiet time I often get when everyone is out at work and school. I’m finding it hard to balance blogging and online time without feeling I’m ignoring my kids. My other passion is reading and I have been told this week that I’m either reading or typing…………clearly I’m not entertaining enough…LOL.
We do have some things coming up, Caitie is off to a Youth Group camp for a week in late June, Adrienne has a college softball camp in July, and we are all going to TX in July to see my family in Dallas.
So things are moving along, we aren’t big summer planners for the day to day stuff. I wish my days were more free at times, because three days a week I’m driving to 35 miles to softball practice, and we are on our 4th weekend in a row of a softball tournament…………thankfully we get next weekend off. I’m actually missing having dinner together the most………..and planning for dinner has become a real challenge, but I’m managing.
How is your summer spent?

My summer use to be spent just like yours…sleeping late…staying up late…unscheduled and fly by the seat of our pants.

Then I decided to have a few more kiddos. Sleep late? Nope, not in the last four years…What? Infants never heard of summer break before. Le Sigh.

    Enjoy yours, you’ve earned it.

Happy Summer Vacation to you and your family Anita!

Ah, the bliss of sleeping in…no schedules…no rushing…the boredom! hee hee As wonderful as it is to have everyone home, I agree that is tricky to balance activities, entertaining everyone, and some personal time too!

I’m so excited that you will get to see your parents in July and that all the kids will be able to go and spend time with them making memories!

I have missed you the past 10 days I was away, and am anxious to catch up on your blog and all that has been going on in your life!

Happy Thursday, and know that I am sending you lots of love today my friend!

    Your summer sounds absolutely blissful!
I’m half in SAHM world and half out. I can sleep in with them on Wednesdays, and I’m home Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

I am honestly just having the best Summer I have had in a long time. I could honestly stand a few more days to sleep in; but, in many ways our busier schedule is best for us right now and keeps everyone from getting messed up with their sleep schedules. As long as I remember to get time for myself at least once per week during the week, I think this will be one blissful Summer. My kids think I read too much and type too much too!

First of all, why aren’t you my mother? Oh…wait a minute! I’m older than you. Well then, why didn’t my parents just let things go during summer vacation? I’m feeling robbed right now! Those kids had better realize what a sweet deal thay have with you as a mom! Second…I HATE SUMMER. I hate it so much that yesterday morning, every time the phone rang, I answered, “Good Morning! I hate summer!” My tone was quite pleasant and every single person laughed. How come they thought I was joking??? I try to hide inside until after Labor Day unless it’s rainy. Really.

Right now I notice no difference in our summers because I have little kids who get up waayyy to early no matter what. I am sure as they get older and they start branching out with friends and such I will notice a difference. I am sure next summer it will be a little different for me because I will have two that will be in school so I will notice them being home and such. we don’t plan much in the summer but this year we are going on a vacation to Florida! Anyways, I am just rambling.

I think it’s good that your girls can spend the day texting, sleeping in etc.. life gets serious soon enough, they need this time. I know what you mean about missing alone time too!
Our summers are spent mostly without too many big plans.. baseball, swimming, just playing outside. I think my 11 yr old may be more social this summer, he’s getting into the texting thing more. We also like to ride motorcycles when we can.

My little sister graduated yesterday. She starts summer classes at Pres, the high school I attended and the one she will be going to, in a week or so. But they’re fun classes that she is going to love: ceramics and some other art class. Then in mid-July the two of us are going to Turkey (her to visit, me to move in for study abroad). My dad will be working and traveling around, my mom will be doing her own thing, going around from place to place. We’ll have the occasional day trip. We might go to Disneyland. Who knows πŸ™‚

So far, so good, right? It sounds like you’ve got a balanced summer in store. That’s nice.

It’s chaos here in terms of sleeping patterns. They all seem to think they’re going away to college and are practicing for all-nighters.

As long as they let me sleep and MathMan is here during the day to manage them, I really can’t get too worked up about it.
