Independence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. It’s a day of picnics and patriotic parades, a night of concerts and fireworks, and a reason to fly the American flag.
I think most everyone knows this…..but I think it’s evolved to be so very many things, and I think the whole Declaration of Independence thing is pretty darn exciting. Written by Thomas Jefferson, and signed by 56, you can read it here. Fairly heady and deep stuff, the things our Nation was built on.
I’m like most Americans, I think of bbq’s and family and friends and eating! I think of Red, White and Blue, and hokey t-shirts to commemorate the day. I think of soldiers that fight hard daily to keep us free, and that work tirelessly to protect others. I think of parades and celebrations, and of course I think of fireworks! I’m a fan of the fireworks others professionally create, not the ones in the street or that keep me and my kids up all night, or the ones that make me sure we are on our way to the ER because someone has burned or blown off a finger……..I have odd pyrotechnic fears.
Enjoy your day…………whatever you do!
