Life is a Highway!!

I love music? Do you? I find some of my best memories are set to music.

Today two songs are in my head……..Life is a Highway by Rascal Flats, and a tune by Kenny Chesney entitled, “Outta Here” the words are like this:

Lets leave town on a permanent vacation
Lock up the house pack up the station wagon
Make paradise our final destination
As long as we’re outta here

There ain’t no time like the present they say
Lets cruise all the way down A1A
Put the top down and catch a few rays
Baby we’ll be outta here

Anywhere you want to go
As long as its sunny weather
Let the time fly by I don’t mind
As long as we’re together

Today I am doing a little bit of both those songs! I’m running away ……….to visit good friends that live across the state in Tampa and the best part………I’m going ALONE!!!

I am too often wrapped up in my kids and family, I’ve made their ever whim, need, desire, mine, and honestly I forget how to be me. Even this morning I was wondering how this will work, kids will fuss, someone might be late to something, someone might not get the food I’d make for them and then I realize, hey I have a great husband who is very capable of taking care of these children we have for 30 hours. I’m only leaving for one night and will be home tomorrow night sometime.

My friends in Tampa are simply the best, Howard and Sherry are a few years older than me, with a grown daughter. They are wonderful people who saw me “grow up” in the 80’s. Howard and I were managers with JCPenney at one time and we had a blast working together. I moved to this coast in 1989 and we’ve remained good friends, but sadly friends who don’t’ get to see each other much.

So I’m going to finish packing, put some food in the crock pot(because I’m still a good mom as I’m running away) and then I’m hitting the road!

Have a wonderful weekend my friends.

Good for you for realizing you have to do things for you sometimes, too! Have a wonderful time and don’t worry (too much) about the kids/hubby at home. They will be fine!

I am glad you are getting to do something for you! I hope you have fun! I do find music reminds me of memories, I just love music!

Isn’t funny/sad how hard it is to let go a little. I remember one time when my husbands friends from back home were coming to visit for the weekend…they were staying at our house and the girls and I were heading for the hills for the weekend. The three days before…I spent preparing food etc for the BOYS – even though I was leaving…ugh.

I so live my life to music! Every great and then again, not so great, memory has a song attached to it. The original “Life is a Highway” was a theme song for me when I had ran off to join the carnival. It was fabulous. Hope you have a great time.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!! (Do you hear the brass band and see the fireworks – both in your honor?)

I’m so happy that you’re getting some ‘me’ time with great friends! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!

I can just picture you cruising down the highway with your car stereo turned up listening to these songs!!! I love both of those artists.

Have a wonderful time. I think it’s healthy for your family to miss you a little every now and then.

I think my boys would benefit from me letting go a little. I fear they are a little too dependent on me but I know they are capable if I just let them be!
