A Christmas Meme

December 13, 2009 Uncategorized 4

4 days ago I found this on Pam’s Perspective.……finally I’m going to complete it. Feel free to copy and paste it and play along, or leave me some comments.

1. Have you started your Christmas shopping?

Since there are only 11 days left to shop I can proudly say I am almost done. I have one small thing for Nick to pick up, at a mall not close to me, or by mail order.

2. Tell me about one of your special traditions.

I can honestly say I wish we had more. Since Kevin’s mom passed away in 2001 we stopped getting together with all of his family on Christmas eve to eat tons of goodies and exchange mostly children gifts. With the lack of extended family to share our holiday with, we’ve created new memories. On Christmas morning I always make monkey bread after we open all our gifts.

3. When do you put up your Tree?
The weekend after Thanksgiving.

4. Are you a Black Friday shopper?
I have been. After spending many years working in retail management, I swore I’d never do that………..but it can be fun, if you aren’t crazy insane about sleeping on the sidewalk to get a deal on some gift. I mostly enjoy people watching when I shop.

5. Do you Travel at Christmas or Stay home?
We’ve done both. In a perfect world I’d have more family close by……….or I’d have more money and could travel to see them every Christmas.

6. What is your funniest Christmas memory?
Probably the first or second year the girls were able to be excited about Christmas, age 3 or 4 maybe, and we were awake so much earlier than they were, and Kevin and I couldn’t wait for them to wake up and see what Santa had brought them……it was so painful for us to stay in our bedroom and wait!!!

7. What is your favorite Christmas Movie of all time?
I have two. White Christmas, with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney……..I watch it every year. I also love Meet Me in St. Louis……with Judy Garland, it has a beautiful Christmas scene in it.

8. Do you do your own Christmas baking? What’s your favorite treat?
I do. Most years I make several different types of cookies and some candy. My absolute favorite is the one that is hardest to make. Since I just completed them today, I am exhausted and swearing off ever making them again……..but they’ll be back I’m sure! They are Ice Cream cookies, the dough is one pound butter, a pint of vanilla ice cream and 4 cups flour, mixed, rolled in powdered sugar cut out and you drop a tiny bit of jam on top…………….very rich and good, but oh oh so much work!

9. Fake or Real Tree?
I gave up 10+ years ago, with my very allergic son and my complaining husband………….we have an artificial tree(preferred over fake but the same). I miss the smell, not the mess, and Nick can breathe.

10. What day does the actual panic set in to get it all done?

Every day after Thanksgiving until it is all or mostly done. I make list after list after list, shopping, food prep, card list, cards received, cards mailed and then mailed again after the surprise rec’d card. I’m later this year on some tasks……..it’s not a happy thing

11. Are you still wrapping presents on Christmas Eve?
NO NO NO! Last year I had 10 days to spare, I’d better get busy, that only gives me 2 more days!!!

12. What is your favorite family fun time at Christmas?
Making cookies with the kids is one. When I wrap gifts I put them right under the tree, my kids come home from school and check out the growing piles.

13. What Christmas craft do you like the best?
Um………..none.

14. Christmas music? Yes or No, and if yes What is your favorite song?
Not constantly, but I have a few favorite CD’s and I play them in the house. I still love Nat King Cole singing The Christmas Song. In my HS choir we sang Oh Holy Night, and it remains a favorite too.

15. When do you plan to finish all your shopping?
By Dec 19 and the latest.
Do you want to play along?Just simply copy and paste the questions into your blog, and then answer them.

Here are the official rules, though I am choosing not to tag anyone. Feel free to do so, or not.

•Then tag 5 or more of your favorite blogs, and leave them a comment telling them they’ve been tagged.

I love the fact that you got up before the kids when they were little because you were excited for them. We did that a couple times too. I love those memories! Thanks for letting me revisit them!

  2. Pam

Thanks for the shout out! We always wake up before our kids on Christmas Day (every day, really). The year Katie was 2 1/2 and first understand Christmas, I got up extra early so I could be all dressed and showered and ready for her to open her presents (we had company coming over and I wanted to be ready). I finally had to wake her up at 8:30!

  3. My name is PJ.

OMG! HI!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you??? What’s new?? How is the family??

I swear I thought you’d given up on us. While I have your attention, in case you don’t post again beforehand:

    Have a Merry Christmas!!!

Haha. I had to laugh about you being awake before your girls; I still don’t sleep much on Christmas Eve night-just too excited!

    Nicely done.:)
