Book Review: The Noticer

February 1, 2010 book review 7

A friend of mine was kind enough to send me this book last fall.  It made an impression on her and she wanted to share it.  I was really touched by her act of kindness.

This book is fiction, but then again, I’m not sure that it all is.  It’s the story of a man, Jones, not Mr. Jones, just Jones.  He tells people that he is a noticer, that he helps give people perspective, he thinks this is what they are missing,” perspective, a broader view…and it allows them to regroup, take a breath, and begin their lives again”

Jones meets our main character Andy when he is at an all time low, living underneath a pier at the beach.  What he shows Andy is that he has more in his life than he realizes, that he really needs that perspective.  The stories of Jones and those he helps are so diverse, a couple on the verge of divorce, a man who is working so hard and yet has nothing in his life, a older woman that thinks her usefulness is over…….the list goes on.

This book, and these stories were so touching, so deep, leaving a huge impact on me.  I am sure this review does not do it justice.  If you have the chance, pick up a copy in the library or at a store.  Take just a little time to read it, it’s a short book.
I’m giving this book a 4 out of 5 stars………….I really liked it.
