A public service announcement

February 11, 2010 Bella 13

Do you all remember what Bob Barker would say every day at the end of The Price is Right? Help control the pet population, have your pet spayed or neutered.  Well today we put those words into action, and right now my baby Bella puppy is at the SPCA.
Now I know it’s the best thing, we don’t want puppies, we don’t want to mess with a dog in heat, and most animals that are spayed are just fine………….but this morning was very hard for me.
We chose the SPCA for a few reasons.  A friend of ours told us they are very good with this surgery because it is what they do the most.  The cost is 20% of what it would cost me at our Vet’s office, and they do almost everything our Vet does.  I talked to two Vets I know outside our practice and both recommended and assured me the SPCA was a good place for her.

So this morning I dropped off my four pound little baby, and she is waiting for her procedure.  I just called to check, and she hasn’t been in yet, but they said she is just fine.  We are also having a microchip inserted, it was amazingly inexpensive and she’ll feel nothing while under anesthesia.
I’ll be picking her up by 4pm, and we expect her to be groggy and sore and just in need of TLC for a couple of days.

Sometimes even the right thing to do is difficult.

How sweet!! I must have something wrong with me (a lot really); cuz I felt no pangs whatsoever about having our dog fixed. I was kind of relieved.

I love that you called to check before she’d even gone into surgery! πŸ™‚

You did the best thing, the right thing, the responsible thing and a loving thing!

BTW, I’ve had dogs micro-chipped when they were awake and not feel it.

Now, when that randy little Jack Russell down the street visits with Bella, there will be no worries! πŸ˜‰

Aww, I’m sure your little baby will be just fine! πŸ™‚

I remember being paranoid when our cats got spayed, but they were just fine. The only problem was that they hissed a lot at each other afterwards–I guess it was the strange smells. πŸ™‚

Good luck to your puppy–let us know when she’s back home and feeling better! πŸ™‚

We did the same thing for our dog. You made the right choice.

I hope your little one is ok and resting peacefully! She looks like such a sweetheart!

The day I took our little Layla to be spayed was difficult. They put her into a crate and she was a wreck because her “mama” was leaving her.
But after talking to an assistant that morning, I decided to take her back home and reschedule. She had had her first “period” and I needed to let a little more time pass before the surgery. Could have done it then, but I thought later would be better – her uterus would be all the way back to normal.
As you’re reading this, I’m sure your little darling is home receiving a good dose of TLC. πŸ™‚

I’ve never thought of the SPCA as a place to have a pet neutered. I don’t know if our local one does. That’s a huge savings. By now she’s home and I’m sure she will be her little tiny self in a day or so. They are so amazingly resilient. Just ask me, and read today’s post about my Jessie who had a total hip replacement.

    Kisses to Bella.

Girl we just have two much in common, first Michael Buble’, now the dog!!! I have a Yorkie as well. Mine is a male we have had him about 9 years. I don’t blame you, you gotta do what you gotta do. She will get lots of TLC i am sure. Did you see Michael Buble’ on TV with the Olympic Torch the other night? Anyway, have a great weekend and Happy Valentines Day!!!

You have such an adorable little dog! I hope the surgery went smoothly for her.

Thanks for stopping by my blog for my SITS day!

She is just so stinkin’ cute!!!
We did our neuter for Elmo at a cheaper place, too. Actually, the rescue place where we got him payed for it so it was nice. I hated leaving him there though because I didn’t know them. I’ve been using the same vet for years.
