Oh! The Places You’ll Go!
by the incomparable Dr. Seuss

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.

And you know what you know.

And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

You’ll look up and down streets.
Look’em over with care.
About some you will say, “I don’t choose to go there.”
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you’re too smart to go down a not-so-good street………………………………

The first picture is of Jacksonville University, and the second, my Alma Mater, University of Missouri-Student Union.

I love the poem excerpt from above, because as you can see Dr. Seuss is not just for little kids.
So are you wondering what this is about, this is the fact that next week I am taking my two lovely daughters to visit three college campuses.   It’s exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.   I had a wonderful 4.5 years in college…………the BEST time, I expanded my wings, tripped and fell a few times, I met new people, experienced new things, I was able to speak my mind and explore.  I learned we could argue with an instructor if it was done respectfully and let my opinions be heard.   I learned I could be responsible and I grew……….in so many ways.
I want this for my daughters too, I want them to be able to go away, to have their own experiences and growth.
So on this adventure we go.  We are headed to Pensacola today, Caitie is playing soccer this weekend in FL State Cup round 1.  Monday we tour University of West Florida and Tuesday we tour University of North Florida and Jacksonville University.
So with our brains in our heads, and our feet in our shoes, and my husband’s wallet soon to be emptied, off we go!!!

Enjoy your trip, Anita! It is exciting and a bit unnerving, but I know that you and your girls will have a great time, see some cool things and learn more than you could imagine about each school (your friend on FB mentioned a notebook – she’s right! take one).

I give that book to most all those I know are graduating…awesome… are both interested in all the schools? do you think they will end up going together?? have fun!

My thoughts are with you as you enter this new chapter, Anita! It will be exciting and the three of you will have quite a time together.

Do the girls plan to go to the same college or do they want to split up?

Have fun! 🙂 I still remember fondly my very first visit to what is now my alma mater…I loved it right away. Visiting campuses was a fun experience for me–I hope you enjoy it, too. 🙂

Sadly, I never went the way of college. I started a good job the day after I graduated from high school. But I know so many people who say their college years were some of the best years of their lives. I’m sure your daughters are about as excited as teenage girls can get…have fun and enjoy!

Oh my! Is that time already? I remember when you were supporting and encouraging me this time last year while I took my Katie on college visits. Good luck. I hope it goes well.

Good luck! Hopefully there will be one that everyone agrees on! I love that poem, too, but when I posted an excerpt of it Dr. Suess’s people told me take it down, grrrr. I still like the poem though:)
