I hadn’t realized how long it’s been since I blogged.
Schools is out for Nick, his last day was May 23, and so we are in full summer mode at our home. I’m in a good place, I seem to be more relaxed since graduation and those festivities have ended.
I had a little escape last week to Tampa, I visited my same sweet friends Howard and Sherry that I always rely on when in the Tampa area. They were here for the girl’s graduation and I told them I was going to need an escape soon. I ran off on Tuesday and had 2 days and 2 nights with no real demands. I slept in, ate too much and got to relax.
I also had the privilege of visiting with their daughter Natalie and her five month old son Tyler. What a sweet boy he is, she promised to send me some pictures she took, mine were only on my iPhone, so not so good.
For the past few days my girls have been away on a little vacation. Kevin’s parents owned a Time Share @ an hour south of us, right on the Indian River. Since their passing the brothers have shared it, and we paid the fees and have it this year, we let the girls take a few friends down. It’s a 2 bedroom, 1 bath condo. The complex has a wonderful pool and is close to the water, a short drive to the beaches on the Atlantic and in a quiet community. The girls have had a good time from the few calls and texts we’ve received. I’ve tried hard not to hover, oddly enough Kevin has been more anxious to check up on them. I just keep chanting to myself “they will be on their own in 11 weeks, they can do this”.
Nick has been on the go since school let out. I’ve written before that our home is boring, no pool, no media room, no nearby lake to fish in, no friends all over the neighborhood. I’ve accepted this, and I’m thankful that Nick is so outgoing and has a ton of friends that like to have him over…ha ha. He has spent almost as many nights out of our house as in it! He’s gone to two dances at a community center, he’s been to the new skate park twice. He’s been fishing a few times too.
Me, well I’ve been reading and looking for a job. I have my second interview on Thursday at Barnes and Noble. I feel torn, I love books, love book stores and well I also know the downside to retail work. I was a manager for JCP for 14 years, and other stores prior to that. I am looking for something PT, and this does fit that need. I will keep you posted!
I’m also spending much time on some new blogs, blogs written by authors, and dedicated book blogs, and twitter, I found it again, and I am almost stalking a few writers and bloggers I love, someone tell me if I’m getting creepy.
Ending this with some George Gershwin lyrics from Porgy and Bess………and sung by my friend Howard to his first grandson last week, as he was snuggling him down for a nap. Enjoy the season.
And the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’
And the cotton is high
Your daddy’s rich
And your mamma’s good lookin’
So hush little baby
Don’t you cry
