Summer….It’s Arrived in Our House

June 8, 2012 summer 3

I know the calendar tells me that Summer begins on June 20th, but if you have children in school, summer begins when school is out!!
School ended for Nick on May 25, so we are in full summer mode around these parts. He ended the school year with decent grades, all A’s and B’s, and he thankfully passed the new End of Course Algebra exam now required by the state of FL. When you work part time like I do that means a slower pace, sleeping in, no nagging about homework and some pure pleasure.
Summer also means literally no solitary time for me.  Sure my kids are old enough to make their own plans, but I to take Nick places, or ask Adrienne to do it.  Someone else is here with me almost all the time….I deal with it.

Caitie is working at the Credit Union doing some scanning, and Adrienne is my housekeeper this summer.  Unable to find a job, she has a list of weekly chores and we are paying her.  Less than a job, but for the number of hours she puts into it, not bad.

Nick has started weight lifting for freshman football………..good grief the boy will be in high school!! It boggles the mind.

We have no big summer vacation plans, maybe a weekend away in late July.

My summer will be cleaning free(thanks Adrienne) and time for more reading…ha ha.  I’m enjoying many more audio books, and finding I can fit more books into my life between reading and listening.  It’s a very good place to be.

I’m anxious to hear your summer plans……, family reunions, books, anything?

I hear you. I haven’t had one second to myself in a week, which is a big change for me. I’m not getting much of anything done it seems, including reading. My son and I have been going to the trainer though, and when I drop Emma off at 6am for CC training, I run with my friend. It’s all good, just…different. After Emma finishes summer school, we are headed up to IN for 2.5 weeks, then it’s back for football. I’ve made peace with the fact that summers are going to be this way for awhile!

This is the time of year I miss living in the Southwest. Here in RI school doesn’t end until the 3rd week of June. Katie has been home from college since the middle of May, the HS seniors graduated on Sunday and poor Madeleine still have 2 1/2 weeks of school left. It’s painful! Hope you enjoy your time with your kids.
