My Favorite Books of 2013

January 1, 2014 Best of 2013, favorites, Stats 18

I can’t really name a favorite book of the year, but I will say there are books that have stayed with me, that have left me with more thoughts and questions than answers.  I love a book that leaves me wanting more, not wanting to start another book because I just want to keep thinking of the characters and story I’ve just finished.
So here they are, in no particular order, links take you to my reviews.

The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro

Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler

The Promise of Stardust by Priscille Sibley

The Glass Wives by Amy Nathan

Call Me Zelda by Erika Robuck

Is This Tomorrow by Caroline Leavitt

Looking for Me by Beth Hoffman

The Guest House by Erika Marks

The Yonahlossee Riding Camp for Girls by Anton DiSclafani

A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams

The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty

The Never List by Koethi Zan

The Returned by Jason Mott

Guests on Earth by Lee Smith

The Pieces We Keep by Kristina McMorris (review to come)

There are a few others, that I gave high reviews, but I’m not sure I’d say the stories stayed with me….long term.  There is also one more, that publishes in 2014 that I LOVED, and yet I haven’t reviewed.

For those who are interested in statistics, I read 73 books in 2013, more than the year before.  Thirteen were audio books, I think this is less than 2012, but I spent less time in the car, and I’ve yet to find my perfect groove to listening at home.  Twelve of the books above, my favorites, are from authors I hadn’t read before.  I continue to discover more historical fiction I enjoy and I see my passion for psychological thrillers returning.

Here’s to more great books in 2014!!

Looking For Me is on my list as well and The Art Forger came close to being on it. I really need to make the time to read The Guest House because I love Erika.

I’m glad you liked The Art Forger so much; I did too. Just about all of the others on your list I had every intention of reading in 2013, but didn’t get to in time!

Anita, I am so very touched and honored to be among this company! I hope you and your family rang in the new year with joy, my dear, and I hope 2014 brings us more time to visit! Hugs!

What a great list! I really liked The Art Forger as well but it didn’t make the cut. I have The Glass Wives and Is This Tomorrow in my huge TBR pile.

Happy new year Anita!! I’ve read the first two on your list but not the others. I keep hearing about Yonahlossee Riding Camp so plan to keep my eye out for that one. Hope you’re 2014 reading year is just as great!

I just read someone else’s 2013 list. Now seeing yours, I realize how much I have missed reading. I only completed about 10 books in 2013.

You have set off a light bulb and encouraged me to read more this year.

Thank you and Happy New Year to you and your Family!

    Keep those review comin’ 🙂

I have a few of these waiting to be read in my bookcase — and I have to say, I think I’m most intrigued by Calling Me Home and Call Me Zelda (similar titles, haha!). I’ve heard good things about both, and I love reflecting on the books that have really stayed with me by the end of the year… not my favorites, per say, but ones that remain memorable and unforgettable! An interesting distinction.

Out of this whole list, I’ve only read The Returned!!! Guess I need to add some more of these books for 2014 reading!

Thanks for linking up to the Spread the Love Linky Party!!! I pinned this, too! 😀
