The Sunday Salon: BACK from Surgery!

The Sunday Salon2

I may be moving slow, but I am moving!  Last Monday 8/4 I had total knee replacement of my left knee.  Warning, there are a few pictures of my knee bandaged and also the staples.  The surgery went very well, and my three nights in the hospital were fine, yes it was scary to get up on my new knee the first time..but it gets easier each time now.

I came home Thursday and in a flat bed finding a comfy position hasn’t been fun.  Another thing that is getting better.  I slept longer periods of time last night, needing to get up for the bathroom much less.

My pain is minimal, I’m already taking less pain meds than I was prescribed, stretching the time out more and more.

My big job is Physical Therapy, and good lord moving this knee in new ways can wear me out!!  It doesn’t help that I really don’t have a good knee, so I just keep working both knees…building the muscles around the knee.  I have Home Health Care PT and nursing now, not sure for how long, but I hope to be driving next week and able to get to my own PT.

Reading….what is reading?  Drugs make you drowsy and goofy and I haven’t even attempted reading until today.  I have missed it, there is a lot of crap on TV.

Need a semi social media break?  Have surgery….I feel like I’ve checked in a little, but for me, I didn’t really want to talk to anyone…ha ha.

Pictures of my last week!!!!

Knee covered after they removed cotton and bandage, then after gel bandage came off.

High tech ice pack machine is the bomb!  current bandage on leg

Flowers, the sunflowers are from my #Hashtag Reading buddies….women who are there for me through thick and thin!!  They also sent me a hospital survival box.  :).

Thanks for all the best wishes and prayers, I’ve felt them all around me!!

I had forgotten how gnarly the scars were! I am glad you are hanging in there and recovering well. Also, I want one of those ice pack machines! That could be awesome for my hip!

So glad you are feeling more like reading…oh, and that your knee is getting better. 😉 I have missed your bookish thoughts!

Goodness, I didn’t know you were having surgery and wondered where you had gone after posting that you weren’t feeling well. So happy that the surgery went fine for you and you will be back on your feet soon. I had surgery in Feb. and took some time off then and also when I moved, so I know about losing touch with your social network for awhile.
Glad you are back, and hope when the pain lessens (thus the pills do too) you will be reading and reviewing up a storm!

Anita, I was just wondering about you tonight and am impressed that you’ve updated your blog at all. I’m pleased that the surgery went well and that you’re resting. PT makes such a huge difference, but I know you’ll have frustrating days ahead as recovery is never as fast as one would like. Have faith! Be well.

My friend is waiting to have this done, but they won’t consider her for surgery until she loses weight, they say it’s pointless otherwise. Hard when she only gained weight because of her disability in the first place. However, they allocated her a dietician she changed her eating and is losing. We are not in USA, the surgery is free. Had she private health insurance they still wouldn’t do it for the same reasons.
Please recover well, we enjoy your renderings
