Well I’m thankful that I’ve just been reading, and listening to books!!
Last week I finished an older book I’d had on my shelf for over a year. Last year some friends called this So then thinking about it, I also have been listening to a book that I’ve had on my shelf for two years!
This was part of a group read and I really enjoyed it. It was first published in 2009, and comparing it with her newest book, Big Little Lieswhich I read this summer it’s clear to me that her work just keeps getting better and better. I find it interesting that a few main themes have been evident in all three of the Moriarty books I’ve read.
- Family dynamics–she just gets them right, even in dysfunctional families
- School politics–no school is without a few dark secrets
- Friendships–women develop friends that are as close as family, and for life
I give both these books high marks, so grab them if you haven’t yet enjoyed.
In audio I just listened to my very favorite book which was only recently released in audio. To Kill a Mockingbird was one of the first adult books I read, and I’ve read it many times. The audio is read by Sissy Spacek and she gets it right. I never tire of the way Harper Lee told the story of Scout Finch and her family in depression era Alabama. She weaves a story so well. This is also a frequently banned book…welcome to Banned Books Week as well.
I’m in the middle of listening to Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
I bought the book when it was new, and after 100 pages I felt it was dull, but I’m determined to finish it prior to the movie release on October 3. The audio is very well done and I’m enjoying. I have less than 12 hours to go. While I’m not the last to read it, I know most of my friends completed it long ago.
I started a new book yesterday, a YA title given to me by Jennifer at Bookaliciousmama.
This book is a quick start and so interesting. Liz Emerson has decided to kill herself by running her Mercedes into a tree. You’ll need to come back for my review, or trust Jennifer and pick it up now to find out what happens.
What’s up next? I’ve got a few to choose from…..
Please share what you’re reading, or looking forward to reading soon.
