It’s Monday September 22! What Are You Reading?

September 22, 2014 ctbs, It's Monday! What Are You Reading? 7

Well I’m thankful that I’ve just been reading, and listening to books!!

Last week I finished an older book I’d had on my shelf for over a year.  Last year some friends called this   CTBSSo then thinking about it, I also have been listening to a book that I’ve had on my shelf for two years!

I read What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty.  What Alice Forgot

This was part of a group read and I really enjoyed it.  It was first published in 2009, and comparing it with her newest book, Big Little LiesBig Little Lieswhich I read this summer it’s clear to me that her work just keeps getting better and better.  I find it interesting that a few main themes have been evident in all three of the Moriarty books I’ve read.

  • Family dynamics–she just gets them right, even in dysfunctional families
  • School politics–no school is without a few dark secrets
  • Friendships–women develop friends that are as close as family, and for life

I give both these books high marks, so grab them if you haven’t yet enjoyed.

In audio I just listened to my very favorite book which was only recently released in audio.  To Kill a Mockingbird was one of the first adult books I read, and I’ve read it many times.  The audio is read by Sissy Spacek and she gets it right.  I never tire of the way Harper Lee told the story of Scout Finch and her family in depression era Alabama.  She weaves a story so well.  This is also a frequently banned book…welcome to Banned Books Week as well.

I’m in the middle of listening to Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Gone Girl

I bought the book when it was new, and after 100 pages I felt it was dull, but I’m determined to finish it prior to the movie release on October 3.  The audio is very well done and I’m enjoying.  I have less than 12 hours to go.  While I’m not the last to read it, I know most of my friends completed it long ago.

I started a new book yesterday, a YA title given to me by Jennifer at Bookaliciousmama.

Falling into PlaceThis book is a quick start and so interesting.  Liz Emerson has decided to kill herself by running her Mercedes into a tree.  You’ll need to come back for my review, or trust Jennifer and pick it up now to find out what happens.

What’s up next?  I’ve got a few to choose from…..

Not My Father's Son The Wonder of All Things

Leaving Time Kiss Kill Vanish

Please share what you’re reading, or looking forward to reading soon.

Glad to hear you’ve been enjoying the audio for Gone Girl. I found the book a pretty good read but hated all of the characters. Ha! All of them!! I have What Alice Forgot on my shelf and would like to get to it soon. Glad you’re enjoying her work.

What a great post! Don’t know how I missed it on Sunday. I read and enjoyed What Alice Forgot, even better than The Husband’s Secret. I have but have yet to read Big Little Lies but really want to. To Kill A Mockingbird is just about my favorite book and though I just don’t enjoy audiobooks (I’m a visual learner) I so want to get this and listen. It is the perfect story to listen to! I’m not a fan of Gone, Girl I have to admit. It didn’t do anything for me.

All of your new to choose from books look like fun and I am tagging them to check out later, though I had heard of the Picoult one. Thanks for sharing all this, and I hope that you will soon be feeling back to normal!

Oh, the audio of Gone Girl is one of my favorites. Such deliciously despicable characters – just remember you are supposed to hate them!

Falling Into Place is a gorgeous novel. I think you are really going to enjoy it!
