Summary:  What happens when, on a perfectly ordinary evening, all the things you believed in and took for granted are turned upside down?

When her husband of more than 20 years is away on one of his business trips, Darcy Anderson looks for batteries in the garage. Her toe knocks up against a box under a worktable and she discovers the stranger inside her husband. It’s a horrifying discovery, rendered with bristling intensity, and it definitively ends a good marriage.

My Thoughts:  This is Stephen King, so nothing is as simple as it appears.  What Darcy discovers rocks her world.  How could a simple hidden box reveal a dark and evil side to her husband.  Darcy spends a long night trying to sort her thoughts and when her husband returns, she realizes her options are limited.  While Darcy appears to be very quiet and docile, her actions made me very pleased.

It’s difficult to discuss and review this book without giving it all away.  In classic King style this book has many levels of just how bad things can get.  This was part of a story collection and is also now a movie available on iTunes and On Demand.  I enjoyed this book very much, the narrator did a great job, and while I wasn’t familiar with Jessica Hecht’s work I was pleased.

This was a wonderful short listen, worth the time to locate at the library or use an audible credit.  Highly recommend.

This sounds really interesting! I love Stephen King, but there are still a ton of his books I haven’t gotten to and I didn’t even realize he’d written a book like this which I’d categorize as a domestic thriller. I’ll definitely be checking this out 🙂
