The Sunday Salon-October 11

The Sunday Salon1

Hello everyone!!  It seems like it’s been so long since I wrote one of these!  Life has been pretty busy….let me catch you up.

I shared that our daughter Caitie found a job in Tampa, and after a long day of apartment hunting she made her decision.  We helped move her in on September 29.  I remembered my own parents doing the same for me in my first apartment after college.  She needed a few things, always seeming to live with roommates who had more kitchen things.  We visited both Target and the grocery store on move in day….ouch…ha ha.  Prior to that I had been scouring Marshall’s and Home Goods for deals.  Her apartment is cute, nicer than my first one I think, and she is very happy.  She’s been working for four weeks now, and she’s enjoying it very much.

Our daughter Adrienne is busy with classes and working part time.  She is so in the last year of college mode, tough classes and little patience for group projects.  She is doing very well, just one more semester after this one, only 3 classes I think.  She’s ready.

Our son, Nick, is in the thick of college visits and applications.  We’ve narrowed it down to four, which I guess is small by the numbers I’m hearing from other friends.  37 years ago I applied to three, accepted to all and went to my #1 choice.  He’s been busy with school and working part time at McDonalds.  Wrestling season is right around the corner, I’m not sure I’m ready for it, but it’s coming either way.  He is doing really well in his classes, where was this drive when I was fussing at him…his grades are good, but not great.  I’m sure he’ll go to college and be a productive member of society, but his choices of schools may be limited.

I’ve been doing my thing, reading, writing here, and planning….and buying planning “stuff”  don’t ask my husband to discuss it, we just smile and carry on.  I’ve written a couple of posts, and I’ll be continuing my Planner series…it’s a cult like little community, kind of like our book blogging community…very fun.

I’ve been reading Diane Chamberlain’s new book, and it’s very good.

Pretending to Dance

I just started listening to this biography of Rosemary Kennedy, it’s less than eight hours and in the first two it’s been mostly about Rose and how she was the ultimate mother to her children, but how she felt unprepared for the special needs of Rosemary.  I’m hoping it has more details as it goes on.

Today Kevin and I are off to Orlando, a bit of organizational shopping at The Container Store and IKEA.  We’ll likely have a few other stops, and lunch out.  Should be a nice day.

I hope you’re having a lovely day, spending it just how you wish.  Enjoy!!

There is no way you were starting college 37 years ago – you can’t be old enough for that! I’ll have to get my hands on Rosemary – I think I’d enjoy it.

We are in the thick of the college applications at my house too. My daughter has six schools, only one more essay to go, and they will be submitted! She wants to be an engineer, and all the qualifying test scores and GPA’s get ramped up if you choose that major. Fingers crossed she gets into one of her top two choices. I recently finished Pretending to Dance and enjoyed it very much. The last four lines are the best I think I’ve ever read 🙂

I have a thing for books about the Kennedys, so will probably read (or listen to) Rosemary at some point. Will be curious to read your final thoughts.

I always enjoy hearing about your kids.
Interesting… A friend and I were talking about how kids go college, finish, and move back home – not just a short time, but a long time!
I hope mine will “fly” sooner than later once they start their careers>
Best wishes to all of your young ones.
