January 8, 2017 The Sunday Salon 3

Good Morning! Just a few words about reading, life, and what the heck has been going on.

I didn’t do any best of posts for 2016, or share any reading stats.  I still have many reviews to share from my reading, and I’ll be doing so in some new review styles.  I think it’s important to share, fair to any publishers and authors who sent books.

My reading mojo seems to have returned, still in my late night habits, but I am enjoying reading and that is a happy return to my normal.

Our holidays were very nice, but quieter.  I now have adult children..isn’t that an oxymoron?  Is adult offspring more correct?  Sounds silly to me.  The girls were home a short period of time, and for 12 hours we were all in the same place…a wonderful time.  We opened gifts on Christmas Eve, a never before event.  One of my daughters doesn’t like changing traditions so it was hard for her…but we made it!

I taught Caitie how to make ice cream cookies, a Christmas tradition in our house.  I love our family, and it is changing as our kids grow up and out of our house.  Hold on to the moments you can!

Today Nick is heading back to FAU, his second semester begins tomorrow.  He’s got some challenging classes, but I know he can do it.  He is really in a place of flux.  He’s questioning his major, and his school.  He’s applying to another school, and may change.  He’s thinking about Law school more seriously after his undergrad.  We support what he wants…and as parents we guide as best we can.  I also remember being 18/19 and having to make choices that would impact my life…it’s very hard, I don’t envy him.  I only hope my positive suggestions and support will give him strength.

Kevin and I are heading to the movies!  We are going to see Hidden Figures, a movie that has received rave reviews by critics and all my friends.

Wishing you all a lovely, and warm Sunday!!!  Even in my neck of the woods it was chilly this morning…41 and felt like 33…brrr. Floridians were turning on the little used heat!  May you find time to enjoy the finer things in life, a good book, a warm drink, a good meal and good company.

Yes, it’s different when your children grow up. It’s hard to pick a career for the rest of your life at 18 – you really haven’t experienced enough life to know what you want to do, but I’m sure Nick will figure it out. I’ve heard great things about the movie.

Good luck to Nick as he works to figure out his future. It is not easy at 40 to figure out what you want to do with your life, let alone 18! I’m sure he will seriously consider the advice of his wise and loving Momma and will make informed and equally wise decisions. I switched majors too and caused major drama in my family as a result. I am so glad you support his decision, as that is the one thing my parents did not do with me. Ultimately, he is going to do what he wants anyway, but knowing that your parents support you can make a difficult decision that much easier.

Enjoy your quiet nest and getting back into a post-holiday routine!
